I’m restoring subsidy to cut fuel, transport costs – Atiku

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has clarified that his plan to restore fuel subsidy is intended to support local refining and reduce petrol costs, not to subsidise imported fuel. In a series of posts on X on Saturday, he described the proposed policy as a 'production subsidy' that would assist domestic refineries in producing petrol at lower costs, with savings passed on to consumers. He illustrated the approach with a shoemaking analogy, stating that government could either make imported shoes cheaper or support local shoemakers in Aba to reduce production costs, create jobs, and sell at more affordable prices. Atiku said he would choose the latter approach and apply the same strategy to fuel.
