Meet the NYC parents who feel like their toddlers got into Harvard

Some New York City parents likened their toddlers' acceptance into a free childcare program to getting into Harvard. The program, proposed by NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani, launched with 2,000 seats in communities selected based on economic need and childcare demand. One parent, Zaire Wells, applied online in June and tearfully dropped off her daughter at a Friends of Crown Heights center in Brooklyn. The program received 339 applications for 12 slots, a 3.5% acceptance rate.
