Dolly Parton's name could soon become the first thing millions of travellers see when they arrive in Nashville, following a unanimous vote to begin the process of renaming the city's international airport after the late country music icon. The Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority Board of Commissioners voted 6-0 on Friday to begin the process of incorporating Parton's name into Nashville International Airport, just weeks after the legendary singer died at the age of 80. The final name has not yet been determined, meaning the airport has not officially become "Dolly Parton International Airport". Officials said they are working with the relevant parties to determine how best to incorporate the singer's name and legacy. The move follows a campaign that gathered significant public support after Parton's death on August 25, with more than 175,000 people reportedly signing an online petition calling for the airport to be renamed in her honour.
