Operatives of the Ebonyi State Police Command have rescued a Methodist cleric, Rev. Ede Sunday, who was abducted in Ohaukwu Local Government Area. The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, said in a statement on Friday that the cleric was abducted on September 9, 2026, after two armed men intercepted his vehicle in front of his church and forced him onto a motorcycle. He said the command received a distress call and mobilised operatives to pursue the suspects, who abandoned the cleric as police closed in. In a separate operation in Abakaliki, the command arrested a suspected cultist and recovered a locally made Beretta pistol loaded with one round of 9mm ammunition.
