The Nigerian Army has commenced an investigation into the alleged sexual abuse of a minor by one of its officers, Captain Etim Essien, in Taraba State. The investigation follows an online report linking Captain Essien to the alleged abuse of a 13-year-old victim who is reportedly deaf and non-speaking. The Taraba State Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development and the National Human Rights Commission in the state have asked the Army to take appropriate administrative and disciplinary action against the officer. The Army confirmed it is aware of the reports and is investigating to establish the veracity of the allegation.
