Leaders of the 11-nation BRICS group, including China, Russia, Iran, and India, convened in New Delhi and issued a joint statement calling for calm in the Middle East. Chinese President Xi Jinping stated that the Middle East war does not serve the common interests of the international community. The joint statement came after previous divisions among member states, with foreign ministers failing to agree on a statement in May due to disagreements over the war that began with US-Israeli strikes on February 28. The leaders expressed deep concern over the continued escalation of tensions in the region.
