Ondo govt links naming ceremonies to 29 deaths from ” Monkey Tail” consumption

The Ondo State Government has confirmed that 29 people died after consuming a local herbal alcoholic mixture known as 'monkey tail' in Odigbo council area. Health Commissioner Dr Banji Ajaka said there were 60 suspected cases linked to two naming ceremonies, with a fatality rate of 48.3 percent. He noted that 95 percent of the victims were males between the ages of 16 and 55. The cases were identified in New Town, Odole, Okele, and Orita Odigbo in Odigbo Ward.
