Former Benue State governor Samuel Ortom and 2027 PDP governorship candidate Michael Aondoakaa (SAN) have called on Governor Hyacinth Alia to account for N1.2 trillion received from the Federation Account Allocation Committee following the removal of fuel subsidy. At a news conference in Makurdi, Ortom's media consultant Dr. Terver Akase said the funds included allocations for the 23 local government areas and that accountability is necessary for Benue residents to know how their money is spent. Akase accused the Governor's Chief Press Secretary of attacking Ortom and Aondoakaa while avoiding the issue of accountability. He noted that since assuming office in 2023, Governor Alia has enjoyed unprecedented financial inflows from the Federation Account.
