The political rivalry between former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom and his successor, Governor Hyacinth Alia, has intensified. Ortom accused Alia of running the state on "lies, deceit and hypocrisy." The dispute centers on financial matters, with Alia's administration claiming it spends about N7.4 billion monthly servicing debt inherited from Ortom's tenure. Ortom rejects this, citing higher federal allocations under Alia and criticising the increase in the governor's unilateral spending limit.
