In New Delhi Declaration, BRICS Leaders Demand Reforms In UN

BRICS leaders have unveiled the New Delhi Declaration, calling for reforms in United Nations governing institutions, particularly the UN Security Council, to reflect more democratic and stronger representation for developing countries. The declaration was made at the 18th BRICS Leaders' Summit in New Delhi, India, which commenced on Saturday under the theme 'Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability'. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the 2026 summit, with India as chair, focuses on practical, forward-looking and people-centric cooperation to enhance the Global South. The meeting is attended by leaders including Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
