The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has given the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) seven days to account for over N126.46 billion in public funds appropriated for electoral operations but allegedly diverted, lost, mismanaged, or unaccounted for. The funds relate to the procurement of ballot boxes, electoral devices, materials, vehicles, accreditation devices, audit and consultancy services, digital archiving, and other goods and services. The demand follows the 2023 audited report of the Auditor-General of the Federation, published on 7 August 2026, covering periods between January and December 2022 and extending to 31 December 2023. SERAP is urging INEC to provide details of payments, beneficiaries, and contracts, or face legal action.
