Civil society organisations have called for further legal proceedings involving former Minister of Petroleum Resources Diezani Alison-Madueke in Nigeria following her recent acquittal by the Southwark Crown Court in London, United Kingdom. The organisations, including the Africa Network for Environment and Economic Justice, the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre, Human and Environmental Agenda, Spotlight on Corruption and CornerHouse UK, made the call during a virtual press briefing. They said the outcome of the UK case should not automatically bring to an end any separate proceedings or processes that may be ongoing in Nigeria. Executive Director of ANEEJ Rev. David Ugolor said criminal proceedings and asset recovery proceedings were distinct.
