A four-storey building under construction collapsed on Sunday at Independence Layout, Enugu, killing one person and trapping several others. The building, located along Ogbaru Street/Alvan Ikokwu Street, trapped multiple individuals, with three others rescued from the rubble. An official involved in the excavation and rescue operation said excavators were still working to determine whether anyone remained trapped beneath the debris. The official said the exact number of people affected was yet to be established, noting that the collapse was linked to suspected structural defects and that the site had previously been sealed by the Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority following an inspection.
