An over 80-year-old man, Ordue Ikye, was allegedly beaten to death by a mob in Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State after being accused of witchcraft. The attack occurred at about 7pm last Sunday at Tse-Ikye, Gbemacha Council Ward, Mbavior, Mbasar, following the death of Aker Aleva, a man in his 30s. According to a petition by the Advocacy for Alleged Witches (AfAW) to the Benue State Commissioner of Police, Aleva had complained of headache while returning from watching football and later died at a hospital in Ikpayongo. Ikye, said to be a relative of the deceased, was subsequently accused by community members of causing Aleva's death through witchcraft.
