Three separate suits before the Federal High Court in Abuja are seeking to compel the release of original certificates belonging to Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC). The suits, filed by Labour Party chieftain Mr. Abayomi Arabambi, seek orders of mandamus against the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). The legal actions are predicated on the alleged refusal of the institutions to release Obi's academic records under the Freedom of Information Act, 2011. The suits appear to put Obi's credentials under scrutiny ahead of the 2027 elections.
