The National Emergency Management Agency is coordinating rescue operations after a four-storey uncompleted building collapsed at Independence Layout, Enugu State, at about 6 a.m. on Sunday, September 13, 2026. NEMA's Director-General, Mrs Zubaida Umar, directed the agency's Enugu Operations Office to deploy an Emergency Rescue Team and coordinate the response with stakeholders. The team commenced search and rescue operations with an excavator deployed to remove debris, and by 11:20 a.m. had recovered the lifeless body of one male victim.
