A Nigerian detainee identified as Mr Ekene has alleged that over 2,000 Nigerians are stranded in a deportation camp in India due to delays in obtaining travel documents and slow processing of deportation cases. He made the claim during an online interview with Vanguard. This follows statements by NiDCOM Chairman Abike Dabiri-Erewa that the Indian government granted a targeted amnesty to undocumented Nigerian migrants starting May 1, 2025, initially for six months and later extended by three months. Dabiri-Erewa noted that no fewer than 4,000 Nigerians have returned under the programme without penalties.
