Nigeria's Point of Sale transactions reached N18.78 trillion in the first quarter of 2026, according to data from the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS). This represents a 79.03 per cent increase from N10.49 trillion in the same period of 2025, averaging about N208.7 billion daily. The growth highlights the expansion of electronic payments into markets, transport hubs, and communities through agent banking. However, repeated damage to telecom infrastructure threatens the reliability of networks supporting the cashless economy.
