Obi, Makinde and Hurdles Against Opposition Coalition

A recent thaw in relations between Peter Obi, the National Democratic Congress presidential candidate, and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has renewed discussions about a possible opposition coalition to challenge President Bola Tinubu in 2027. The two leaders, who were on opposite sides in the 2023 election cycle, met privately in Ibadan and appeared together at public events, including the inauguration of the Allied People's Movement Presidential Campaign Office in Abuja. Makinde is a candidate for the 2027 presidency on the APM platform. The rapprochement follows a plan by G-100, a group of opposition stakeholders advocating a united opposition front.
