Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google have been holding discussions about creating a standards body for the AI industry, according to people familiar with the matter. The talks occurred even before Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei called for AI companies to coordinate on testing and auditing the technology. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman expressed support for a testing and auditing organization during a companywide town hall, but believed major AI labs would need to create a standards body without U.S. government support.
