The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has stated that the Nigerian High Commission in India is handling the cases of hundreds of Nigerians detained in Indian prisons. As of September 1, officials visited 198 Nigerian inmates across five prisons in Maharashtra and Mumbai. Between September last year and May this year, the High Commission secured amnesty for thousands of Nigerians detained mainly over immigration offences, and those released have returned to Nigeria.
