The United States Government has commended Nigeria for sustained maritime security reforms that led to the lifting of the 12-year Condition of Entry imposed on vessels visiting the United States from Nigeria. In a letter dated August 26, 2026, addressed to Nigeria's Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Dr. Adegboyega Oyetola, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Frank W. Garcia Jr. congratulated Nigeria on the milestone. The U.S. noted that the development will deliver tangible benefits to shipping operators, reduce shipping costs, and strengthen trade between the two countries. The letter follows the United States Coast Guard's decision and provides a fresh endorsement from Washington.
