Environmental activists and stakeholders have called for a new, community-driven model of environmental protection that places indigenous knowledge, local languages, and collective action at the center of efforts to address the ecological crisis in the Niger Delta. The call was made during a one-day brainstorming session called "Wisdom Gathering," organized by the Health of Mother Earth Foundation (HOMEF) in Kaani, Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State. The event featured the unveiling of the MEEDECOR Ecological Knowledge Centre and celebrated the legacy of the late Ogoni environmental activist Ken Saro-Wiwa. Participants challenged the younger generation to sustain the struggle for environmental justice.
