Stolen by Deception: Inside NAPTIP’s Rescue of Over 180 Trafficked Children

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has rescued over 180 trafficked children in operations spanning several states. The rescues followed a pattern of deception in which suspected criminal networks allegedly preyed on families displaced by violence and hardship, promising education and support before taking their children away. In one case, a father in Kajuru, Kaduna State, was reunited with his son after three years; the boy was three when gunmen invaded their community, and the family was later approached by people claiming to represent an NGO helping crisis-affected communities. NAPTIP is now unravelling the network and tracing those behind the alleged trafficking of vulnerable children.
