The Middle Belt Young Political Stakeholders has called on Senator Seriake Dickson, national leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), to intervene in efforts to displace the party's gubernatorial candidate in Plateau State, Jonathan Akuns. The group's president, Gaius Shekwolo, and secretary, Abdullahi Iliya, made the call during a press conference in Abuja. They described those behind the move as political jobbers and insisted that a planned substitution or rerun governorship primary scheduled for Tuesday, September 15, 2027, was unwarranted. According to the group, the plan is part of a broader effort to displace Akuns, who emerged as the sole candidate unopposed at the initial primary on May 29, 2026.
