Residents of the Federal Capital Territory have expressed concern over the sharp increase in onion prices, which they say has made the commodity unaffordable. Checks by the News Agency of Nigeria in various markets revealed a significant rise in recent weeks. A vegetable seller at Madallah market, Hussaini Garba, said a bag of onions that previously cost N50,000 now sells for between N120,000 and N130,000. Vendors attributed the increase to reduced supply from producing areas due to seasonal shortage, disease affecting onions, and higher transportation costs.
