Kano State has been ranked first among 209 subnational governments in education spending and second in climate governance in the 2026 African Subnational Survey Report by the University of Paris. The awards were presented at an event at the City University of Paris. The state's director-general of Media and Publicity, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, announced the recognition in a statement. The development drew commendation from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
