Obasanjo: Nigeria Has No Reason To Be Poor

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said Nigeria has no justification to be poor, blaming the country's economic challenges partly on policies that encourage imports at the expense of local production. He made the remark during an interview on C-Suite Cafe, hosted by Ikem Okuhu. Obasanjo noted that Nigeria possesses abundant land, water, rainfall, and human resources needed to produce enough to meet its needs and create wealth. He recalled an experience as African Union chairman when he and former ECOWAS chairman John Kufuor observed that Guinea-Bissau had abundant agricultural resources but still relied on imported food.
