American racing driver Ugo Ugochukwu has become the first driver from the United States to win the FIA Formula 3 Championship, sealing the title at the Madring circuit in Madrid. The 19-year-old secured the championship after finishing second in the final race of the season on Sunday, September 13, 2026. Following the landmark achievement, Ugochukwu reflected on his Nigerian heritage, which comes through his mother, Oluchi Onweagba. “I’m super proud of my Nigerian roots, on my mom’s side,” he said, while speaking about the significance of his Nigerian connection. The young driver also expressed pride in having his name recognised by supporters in Africa as his motorsport career continues to gain international attention. Ugochukwu’s championship success represents a major step in his career and strengthens his credentials as he progresses through the single-seater racing ladder. His victory at Madring also gives the United States its first FIA Formula 3 champion.
