The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to prevent university lecturers with known partisan affiliations from serving as returning and collation officers in the 2027 general elections. The party's national publicity secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, issued a statement on Monday following reports that over 600 senior lecturers from public universities in northern Nigeria had endorsed President Bola Tinubu's re-election bid. The ADC argued that appointing academics who have publicly taken political positions could compromise the credibility of the electoral process and create conflicts of interest.
