The Federal Government College in Benin, Edo State, remained closed on Monday amid protests against the planned concession of federal unity colleges. A banner displayed by the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) at the entrance read, "No Concession of Federal Unity Colleges, No Resumption." Parents who brought their children to the school were turned back, and security personnel were stationed at the entrance. A parent, Mr Osifo, opposed the concession, calling the schools a national heritage that should be preserved.
