Journalist jailed two yrs for security comment in Mali

A Malian journalist, Abderhamane Keita, was sentenced to two years in prison on Monday for remarks made during a TV programme about Mali's security situation. Keita, an editor at the daily Le Temoin, was taken into custody in early June for undermining national unity and the credibility of the state, and for publishing and disseminating false or misleading information. He was prosecuted after asserting on the TV programme that the northern city of Kidal was being run by the leader of the jihadist group JNIM. Since late April, JNIM and its Tuareg separatist allies have waged attacks aimed at weakening the country's junta rulers, including taking Kidal and assassinating the minister of defence in April.
