The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to review the use of partisan lecturers as Returning and Collation Officers in the 2027 elections. This follows reports that over 600 senior lecturers from public universities in the North endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election. The ADC, in a statement signed by National Publicity Secretary Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, said the development raises questions of electoral credibility and conflict of interest. The party acknowledged the constitutional right of Nigerians, including academics, to support any candidate, but stressed that no person who has openly taken a partisan position should be involved in collating election results.
