The Zamfara State Government has extended the resumption of all public and private schools by two weeks due to a diphtheria outbreak. The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Abdulmalik Abubakar Gajam, announced the extension to allow health and education authorities to strengthen disease surveillance, contact tracing, vaccination verification, and public sensitisation. Schools are directed to comply and use the period to clean and decontaminate premises and ensure hand-washing facilities are available. The decision aims to protect the health of pupils, students, teachers, and the wider school community.
