Obi, Makinde and hurdles against opposition coalition

A recent thaw in relations between National Democratic Congress presidential candidate Peter Obi and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has renewed talk of a possible opposition coalition to challenge President Bola Tinubu in 2027. The two leaders, who were on opposite sides during the 2023 election cycle, were seen together at a private meeting in Ibadan and at public events, including the inauguration of the Allied People's Movement Presidential Campaign Office in Abuja. The Obi-Makinde rapprochement follows a plan by G-100, a group of opposition stakeholders advocating a united opposition front. Obi's appearance at the inauguration of Makinde's campaign office may be seen as raising the stakes in that plan.
