There has been a surge in counterfeit and substandard products across Nigeria, affecting food, water, medicines, and building materials. Recent viral social media posts have raised alarms about fake toothpastes, body creams, contaminated bottled water, milk, baby products, and beverages. In Ondo State, a locally brewed alcoholic drink led to the deaths of at least 29 people. The chairman of Odigbo Local Government Area, Taiwo Adegoroye, said a task force has been enforcing a ban on the sale of herbal drinks in parks, markets, and streets.
