Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has raised concerns over large financial awards arising from garnishee proceedings against state and local government accounts, warning that such deductions could undermine government development efforts. He spoke at the Benue State High Court Headquarters in Makurdi during a special court session marking the opening of the 2026/2027 Legal Year. Alia called for stronger cooperation between the Executive and Judiciary, stressing that the two arms should be partners rather than rivals. He also urged judicial officers, lawyers and other justice-sector stakeholders to uphold professionalism, integrity and fairness.
