Kenya to host 2029 World Athletics Championships as Africa’s first

World Athletics has announced that Nairobi, Kenya, will host the 2029 World Athletics Championships, making it the first African host of the event. Nairobi beat competition from London, Munich and Rome to secure the hosting rights. The 2031 championships will be held in Munich, while the 2027 event has already been awarded to Beijing. World Athletics president Sebastian Coe said the decision means the championships will be delivered in Asia, Africa and Europe over the next three editions, describing Nairobi's bid as compelling and emotional.
