The Peter Obi Media Office has described the endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's re-election by approximately 600 university academics as a grand plan to rig the 2027 general election. The lecturers, from the 19 Northern states and the Federal Capital Territory, endorsed Tinubu for a second term over the weekend. In a statement signed by spokesperson Idris Zekeri, the office said the endorsement is troubling as it signifies an early attempt to build and legitimise a network of partisan actors ahead of the 2027 presidential election. The office added that the lecturers' public backing for the incumbent raises serious questions about the framework for manipulating the 2027 election.
