Uganda: Speaker Oboth pledges to deepen Parliamentary Relations with Pakistan

The Speaker of Uganda's Parliament, Hon. Jacob Marksons Oboth, has pledged to deepen parliamentary relations with Pakistan. During a bilateral meeting with the Speaker of Pakistan's National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Oboth stated that Uganda is identifying a select group of countries for stronger bilateral ties, naming Pakistan as a key ally. The meeting took place on Monday, 14 September 2026, on the sidelines of the 69th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in Cape Town, South Africa. The two leaders emphasized the need to move beyond ceremonial engagements to establish operational frameworks for legislative cooperation in trade, economic diplomacy, capacity building, research, climate change, and educational exchanges.
