Former Senate Chief Whip Sir Rowland Owie criticised President Bola Tinubu over the concession of Kings College Lagos to the school's old boys association, a decision that has led to a national strike by staff of unity schools. The staff contend that other unity schools could face a similar fate if the Kings College concession succeeds, arguing it is a surreptitious way of privatising the school. Reacting in Benin City, Owie said unity schools are the remaining symbols of unity in the country. He expressed shock that a president from the old western region, where free education and free health started under the old UPN, could take such action.
