US tightens F-1 visa rules, introduces four-year admission limit, cuts grace period to 30 days

International students in the United States will face new limits on how long they can remain in the country under their F-1 student status. The Department of Homeland Security is replacing the long-standing duration of status system with fixed admission periods from September 15, 2026. The changes include a four-year admission limit and a reduction of the grace period to 30 days.
