Canada remains ‘most important partner’ for US in ‘key areas’ – Prime minister

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said Canada will remain a crucial partner for the United States in key areas, speaking at a meeting of top global investors. Addressing the Canada Investment Summit, Carney said the North American neighbours had always maintained close ties even at times of disagreement. He said the arrangements work when both countries engage as true partners that respect each other's traditions and sovereignty. The remarks came hours after President Donald Trump imposed new tariffs on Canada; Carney organised the Toronto summit as part of efforts to curb Canada's dependence on the United States.
