The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Delta State chapter has raised an alarm over a shortage of teachers across primary and secondary schools in the state. The union put the manpower deficit at more than 10,000 teachers, stressing that the shortage can no longer be left unattended. The disclosure followed an independent screening and audit exercise that exposed significant gaps in the number of teachers available. State chairman Comrade Dickson Poubeni attributed the shortage to retirements, deaths among serving teachers, and manpower gaps identified through the audit. He noted that the situation is putting increasing pressure on teachers currently in service and could affect effective teaching and learning.
