A former Google DeepMind researcher, Bilal Chughtai, said he resigned from the AI lab over fears that AI has the potential to kill us all and that humanity might be running out of time to avoid this outcome. In a statement posted on X and other platforms, he wrote that he witnessed AI development firsthand at Google and is extremely concerned by the default trajectory of the technology. He had worked on AGI safety and alignment research at DeepMind.
