The Office of the Auditor General (OAG) can only audit 4,500 out of 16,000 entities within its mandate due to resource constraints, MPs on the Budget Committee were told. The revelation was made during a meeting with OAG officials on Tuesday, 15 September 2026. Assistant Auditor General James Bantu assured the committee that the OAG audits recoverable costs claimed by oil companies, amid concerns that US$3.1 billion in claimed costs could significantly reduce Uganda's future petroleum revenues. Bantu stated that the OAG undertakes audits of recoverable costs incurred by companies contracted in the Albertine region.
