China Imposes New Travel Restrictions Over ‘National Security’

China has introduced new travel restrictions that allow authorities to impose exit bans on citizens deemed threats to industrial or technological security. The measures, effective Tuesday, permit prevention of departure for violations of technology import and export regulations. Individuals involved in illegal activities abroad may also face bans from six months to three years upon return. The State Council stated the rules aim to safeguard national sovereignty, security, and development interests, amid technology and AI tensions with the United States.
