More than 17,000 athletes and officials are expected at the 20th Asian Games in Nagoya and across Japan's Aichi prefecture, exceeding the organisers' initial estimate of about 15,000 participants. The Games run until October 4, and organisers have turned to temporary accommodation, including a cruise ship, wooden container-style rooms and hotel facilities, to cut costs. Between 4,000 and 5,000 athletes and officials are expected to stay aboard the Italian cruise ship Costa Serena, which has 571 cabins, seven swimming pools, eight restaurants and nine bars. The scale of using a cruise ship for athlete accommodation is unprecedented, and the arrangements have raised concerns among participating countries.
