The Trump-appointed board of the Kennedy Center voted on Tuesday to close the performing arts center, according to a statement by President Trump on Truth Social citing safety reasons and planned reconstruction. The board had renamed the institution the Trump Kennedy Center, but a federal judge ordered the removal of Trump's name. Renovations would not begin until the DC Circuit rules on whether Trump can add his name to the institution. The center was originally called the National Cultural Center and was renamed after President John F. Kennedy following his 1963 assassination.
