Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has challenged the Anambra State government to prove that his administration left behind unpaid debts, salaries, pensions, or contractor liabilities. In a statement on his social media page, Obi dismissed claims by the state government that his administration left inherited debts, including a N2 billion ecological loan. He stated that his administration cleared historical gratuities and arrears worth over N35 billion and that there were no outstanding salaries, gratuities, or pensions when he handed over. Regarding the ecological fund, Obi said the N2 billion was released about three months before the end of his tenure for the Oko/Umuchiana erosion crisis, and he left it for his successor.
